Nondiscrimination Policy

Policy Statement

Stanford University is committed to nondiscrimination as a matter of principle and adheres to all applicable federal, California, and other nondiscrimination laws and regulations, consistent with its commitments to academic freedom and freedom of expression. 

Stanford University admits qualified students from a broad range of backgrounds and perspectives to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the University. Consistent with its obligations under the law, in the administration of the University’s programs and activities, Stanford prohibits unlawful discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin (including shared ancestry or ethnic characteristics), sex, age, disability, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, veteran status, marital status or any other characteristic protected by applicable law.

Additionally, Stanford prohibits unlawful harassment, including sexual harassment and sexual violence.

Implementation Information

Stanford’s Title IX Coordinator is responsible for administering Stanford’s policies that prohibit sexual harassment, sexual violence, and discrimination based on sex or gender. Stanford’s Title VI Coordinator is responsible for administering Stanford’s policies that prohibit discrimination based on race, color, or national origin (including shared ancestry or ethnic characteristics).
