Geriatric Medicine Clerkship

Course Description

VISITING: Open to visitors. TYPE OF CLERKSHIP: Selective 1. DESCRIPTION: This innovative and engaging clinical experience introduces students to the principles of effective geriatric care with a focus on interdisciplinary care, the 4Ms evidence based model of age friendly care and the use of innovation to care for older adults throughout the continuum of care. Geriatric medicine faculty and fellows work with students in various clinical settings including: 1) outpatient clinics at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System 2) outpatient clinic at Stanford University 3) a community skilled nursing facility 4) inpatient experience in the Acute Care of the Elderly (ACE) unit at Stanford University Hospital 5) Home Based Primary Care at Stanford. This clerkship can be personalized to your goals and objectives. Participation requires written approval by Clerkship Director before you can enroll. PREREQUISITES: Active PIV card for VA access strongly encouraged. PERIODS AVAILABLE: 2-9, 11-12 for 2024-25; 2-10 &12 for 2025-26, full-time for 2 or 4 weeks, 1 student per period.
