INTLR-MIN - International Relations (Minor)

A minor in International Relations (IR) is intended to provide an interdisciplinary background allowing a deeper understanding of contemporary international issues. To declare the IR minor, students must complete the application for a minor in Axess, complete the IR Minor Declaration and Course Proposal form, and submit this to the IR office.

Students complete the minor by taking 30 units from the IR curriculum that do not duplicate the student’s major (or, if applicable, any other minor).

Requirements Outline

• 5 units from among IR Core Courses.

• 20 units from one Specialization of the student's choice.

• 5 units of additional IR coursework, which may include any IR course (pre-approved or petitioned).

Additional Policies

• All courses counting toward the minor must be taken for a LETTER GRADE and receive a “C” or better.

• Up to 1 unit of IR pre-approved or petitioned coursework that is not offered for a letter grade may be applied toward IR specialization or filler coursework, if completed for an ‘S’ grade.

• Up to five units of pre-approved Directed Reading can be counted towards your IR minor requirements.

• Upon approval, a maximum of 10 non-Stanford units may be applied to the minor for credit. A minimum grade of B- is required for transfer credit. Petitions for credit must be submitted to the IR office.
