A PhD minor in Materials Science and Engineering allows interested students to explore the role of materials in modern technology and to gain an understanding of the fundamental processes that govern materials behavior.

Completion requirement

The university’s basic requirements for the PhD minor are outlined in Graduate Degrees. A minor requires 20 units of quality and depth graduate work at the 201 level or higher in the Materials Science and Engineering course offering. Courses must be taken for a letter grade. The department’s advanced degree committee must approve the proposed list of courses. Individual programs must be submitted to the Student Services Director at least one quarter before the quarter of the degree conferral. None of the units taken for the PhD minor may overlap with any MS degree units.
