Tri-Valley Family Medicine Elective Rotation

Course Description

VISITING: Open to visitors. TYPE OF CLERKSHIP: Elective. DESCRIPTION: This is an elective course intended for 4th year medical students interested in pursuing family medicine residency. Students will spent two weeks rotating in the inpatient setting and two weeks in the outpatient setting. The rotation will take place at Stanford Health Care Tri-Valley Hospital in Pleasanton, CA and in a Stanford Health Care Tri-Valley Family Medicine Residency Program clinic in Pleasanton, CA. SHC Tri-Valley hospital is a hybrid academic-community institution (40 min from Palo Alto campus). The inpatient experience follows an acting internship or sub-internship format. Students will be with the Family Medicine Inpatient team and work directly with family medicine residents and Stanford SOM attending hospitalists. Students will consult and work directly with attending specialists (no fellows) on complex patients and will have the opportunities to assist with procedures. The outpatient experience will be at the new Stanford Medical Partners Family Medicine Clinic that also serves as the primary outpatient continuity clinic for the Family Medicine Residency program. Students will see patients with core Family Medicine Faculty and Family Medicine residents. This course is for students who are interested in family medicine and a unique blend of academic medicine with a community mission. PREREQUISITES: Completion of internal medicine core clerkship. The team room has a sign outside that says "Nursing Admin." When walking onto 1 West, it is the third door on the right after the men's and women's bathrooms.
