Graduate School of Business GSB - Graduate School of Business

Course Description

This course covers the principles and practice of energy finance. The energy industry has undergone a transformation in recent decades, as new technologies promise cleaner and more efficient energy for residential, commercial, industrial, and transportation purposes. The transition to a new energy economy is drawing large amounts of new financing from both older traditional sources such as banks and public markets, as well as newer entrants including private equity and institutional investors such as sovereign wealth funds and pension funds. The course covers financing and valuation considerations in both traditional and emerging energy sectors, including conventional power, renewables, storage, LNG, nuclear, and digital energy platforms. Students will develop knowledge and skills in energy finance through case studies and interactions with practitioners. Format: 20% lecture, 80% case study. Cases will be short mini-cases designed for use in this course, with guest speakers as appropriate.
