Program Overview
This minor is designed for students working toward a PhD in the various national literature departments. Students working toward a PhD in English are directed to the program in English and Comparative Literature described among offerings in the Department of English.

Degree Requirements
A knowledge of at least two non-native languages:
One non-native language sufficient to qualify for graduate-level courses in that language
A second non-native language sufficient to read a significant author in the original language
A minimum of six graduate courses:
Three graduate courses must be in the department of the second literature
Except for students in the Asian languages, students must choose a second literature outside the department of their primary literature
Three graduate courses must be in the Department of Comparative Literature, including:
A seminar in literary theory or criticism
At least two of the three courses in Comparative Literature should originate in a department other than the one where the student is completing their degree
