External Credit Policies

Transfer and AP credits in Math, Science, Fundamentals, and the Technology in Society course must be approved by the School of Engineering Dean’s office. The major department must evaluate and confirm transfer credit for core/depth courses in the major.

To apply AP (or IB or A-Level) credit to your School of Engineering major, email your unofficial Stanford transcript to Karolina Reyes in the SoE Office of Student Affairs, along with your major program sheet.

  • 10 units of AP/IB/A-Levels calculus is equivalent to MATH 19/20/21. If your transcript reflects 6-8 units, you have credit for MATH 19/20 only and need to take MATH 21 (or a more advanced course that builds on the material, such as MATH 53), regardless of the Math Placement Diagnostic outcome.

  • To receive AP credit for PHYSICS 41 or 43, you must have received a score of 5 on the test(s), which can be confirmed by forwarding your AP board scores to Karolina with the other materials listed above.

See the UGHB page on petitions for more information on using transfer work in the major.
