Advising Expectations
The Department of Epidemiology & Population Health is committed to providing academic advising in support of graduate student scholarly and professional development. When most effective, this advising relationship entails collaborative and sustained engagement by the advisor and the advisee. As a best practice, advising expectations should be periodically discussed and reviewed to ensure mutual understanding. The advisor and the advisee are expected to maintain professionalism and integrity.
Every student will have two advisors: an epidemiology academic program advisor assigned upon admission and a second advisor with a complementary training and/or research mentoring goal. The second advisor can be identified or selected no later than the end of the first year (last day of class in summer quarter of the first year).
The academic program advisor may serve as a second advisor if the program advisor has a primary or joint appointment with the department. In this case, students can identify another advisor for complementary training. At least one of the advisors must have a formal appointment with EPH.
The program adheres to the advising guidelines and responsibilities listed in the Graduate Academic Policies and Procedures manual.
See the Graduate Advising for a statement of university policy on graduate advising.
