Program Overview
The Division of Literatures, Cultures, and Languages, in cooperation with East Asian Languages and Cultures and the English Department, teaches undergraduates to develop and apply their foreign language knowledge to analyze and produce translations. The minor is designed to give students majoring in various fields the tools to consider the practical and theoretical issues brought up by translation as an aesthetic, cultural, and ethical practice.
Declaring the Minor
Prior to declaring the minor, students are encouraged to complete the Translation Studies worksheet to the best of their abilities before meeting with the Program Advisor, Cintia Santana, to approve the intended course of study. Once the DLCL Student Service Officer in Pigott Hall, room 128, has received a copy of the signed worksheet, the student should formally declare the minor in Axess. If any changes need to be made later on, the student should always alert the SSO and the program advisor to ensure that courses meet the minor requirements.
Program Learning Outcomes
Undergraduates who complete the minor in Translation Studies are expected to be able to demonstrate the following learning outcomes:
Further linguistic proficiency and textual understanding through the production of a translation.

Consider the practical and theoretical issues brought up by translation as an aesthetic, cultural, and ethical practice.
Develop a self-reflective understanding of the critical processes necessary to translate a text.
Critically evaluate and compare translated texts.
